Southern Style & Gracious Service

Growing up in the South with a Grandmother who was considered the best-of-the-best Southern cook, it was inevitable that a love of family, fun, and food grew to overflowing early on.

I began cooking at the age of 10 with my Grandmother, Bess Olmstead Smith (Big Mama) judiciously watching over my every move. She was my inspiration, my mentor, and my best food critic.  She and I had a very special bond that is still not broken even though she has been watching over me from upstairs for many years now.

As a young southern lady, my at-home training was all about being a gracious hostess, knowing the correct way to set a table, a buffet, and decor.  And topping the list was learning how to make guests feel relaxed and pampered.

Through the years, I have cooked for my family, my guests, open houses, office parties, wedding and baby showers, my bed and breakfast, hungry workers on job sites, and all sorts of other get togethers.

I hope you will allow me the honor of catering your next event!

My Aunt Barbara, loved to entertain. She was a wonderful cook; her food was always beautiful. Even Sunday dinners were an event, she prepared the most delightful and interesting meals. Alternatively, my amazing mom was a practical cook. Whenever we would ask what was for dinner she would say "well, you know." That meant whatever casserole she had just invented served very informally.

While Mom was casual, my Aunt Barbara made every Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, an event. Aunt Barbara brought out the culinary me.

My mom welcomed my help in the kitchen.  My Aunt, however, would only let me stand and watch the whirl-wind of activity. From both women I knew I was learning some important lessons: live well, enjoy your family, and cook with love . . . like crazy!

When I moved out of my parents home and had to begin cooking for myself and my friends, I felt that I had been blessed with wonderful lessons from my Mom and Aunt. Oh yes, my friends were my guinea pigs and frankly I think they liked it a lot. (So did I!)

After marrying the man of my dreams, Tom Conway, I embarked on a cooking adventure that has lasted me a lifetime. Now, I am pursued as a caterer by many friends who love my food and many who have simply heard of my culinary talent.

For me, food is love. I hope to share the love with you at any and all of your events.
